    Makita Corporation is recognized by consumers worldwide as one of the foremost manufacturers of high-quality power tools. Our products, which bear the distinctive 

trademark MAKITA in various forms                              

are known for their unparalleled quality, reliability and innovation. Unfortunately, the popularity of our products has inevitably made them prime targets for counterfeiting and imitation.

    To protect our trademarks and good reputation, we are determined to use all necessary measures to proactively combat counterfeiting and imitation, which include conducting extensive public awareness campaigns, registering our IP-related rights as required by law, collaborating with regulatory authorities and, where necessary, taking legal action against infringers.

    In Thailand, with our trademarks officially registered and protected by the law, we and our local business partner, Thai Seng International (Thailand) Co., Ltd., have worked closely with law enforcement authorities such as the Royal Thai Police, the Customs Department and the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to combat counterfeiting and imitation. In recent years, the efforts have proven to be fruitful. In 2023 and early 2024, we joined force with the authorities to conduct raids and seizures to have more than 2,000 counterfeit MAKITA items seized, including circular saw blades, electric chainsaws, carbon brushes, electric drills, nail guns, screwdriver guns, water sprayers, and laser measurement instruments. Moreover, 12,000 counterfeit MAKITA stickers and labels printed to be used with counterfeit power tools were also seized. Photographs of some of the seized goods are enclosed/attached with this letter.

    It should be noted that, under Thailand’s Trademarks Act, the manufacture, sale, offering for sale, importation or possession for sale of counterfeit goods is a criminal offense punishable with imprisonment of up to 4 years or a fine of up to 400,000 baht or both and the manufacture, sale, offering for sale, importation or possession for sale of imitative goods is a criminal offense punishable with imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of up to 200,000 baht or both. Moreover, under civil law, Makita can also take civil action against those involved in the manufacture of or the trade in counterfeit or imitative goods to seek damages and injunctions.
